WHY ASK FOR RAIN WHEN IT IS RAINING?

Title: Why ask for rain when it is raining?
Scripture: Zechariah 10:1

"Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field."

How can one ask the Lord for rain in a time of rain? Is it not out of place, knowing very well that we are in a season of rain? You might even say it is an unheard of thing. But the idea is that of asking for copious (abundant, plentiful, profuse) rains in the time of rain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. And has God ever complained of having limited resources? We can see from our text that, God promises of bright clouds and showers to EACH BLADE OF GRASS in the field. And this can be understood of both natural and spiritual rain.

The problem is our mindset. We mostly think of drizzles instead of downpours. There is nothing wrong with asking for rain whiles it is yet raining. It just could mean you need more of it. Since our God is able to supply, go ahead and ask for more!

Some people think that, the only time to ask for rain is in a time of drought.  And the appropriate time to ask for abundance and increase is in a time of famine. But God's thoughts are not our thoughts...He can choose to do things His way. He wants us to understand that, He has power over all forces of this world and controls all its elements. So He can bless both in a season of lack and in a season of plenty.

Don't put God in a box. "Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth."(Hos. 6:3). "Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month."(Joel 2:23). I see God doing a new thing in your life. Your blessings shall pour down like rain. Be still and know, that He is God!
