SEEK THE GIVER, NOT THE GIFTS...

2 Chronicles 26:5b "As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success." This scripture passage is referring to a man named Uzziah, king of Judah. He began his reign when he was just sixteen years old. Actually, compared with the beginning of his grandfather Joash, who reigned as king at the age of seven, Uzziah was matured. But how can someone at 16, rule a great kingdom like this? Where lies his strength, wisdom and experience? But when you follow through the story, Uzziah started as a godly king and God caused him to be victorious over enemies in various battles. Then comes 2 Chro. 26:16: "But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall." As Paul reminds us "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought." Uzziah's success lasted only as long as he sought the Lord. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness and all these things, shall be added unto you. We are not to pursue the things. We are to pursue God. Interestingly, if we pursue God, we get the things, but if we pursue the things, we may well miss both. Seek the giver not the gift! ABTruworshipa.
